TRAM makes OSCAR shortlist

Short animated film, Tram by Film Club director Michaela Pavlatova has made it into the OSCARs shortlist. Out of 56 qualifying films Tram is one of the 10 short listed films from which 3 to 5 will make it through to be nominated in the final round.


Tram tells the tale of erotic fantasy of a lady tram driver.

Film Club shortlisted at the 2012 British Arrows Craft Awards


Film Club Commercial Tempo - Bike has been shortlisted in the animation section of the 2012 British Arrows Craft Awards.

The winners will be announced on 26th November.


Film Club Pentax films for Blueprint Magazine

2 Film Club directors David Anderson and Tom Jobbins have just completed short films commissioned by Blueprint Magazine. The films are running at the Designjunction as part of the London Design Festival and highlighted in the November issue of Blueprint Magazine

Blueprint provided a Marc Newson designed Pentax K-01 camera and a fairly open brief, 

Tom Jobbins chose London 2012, Tom decided to celebrate how well the Brits did in the cycling events at the London 2012 Olympics in this amazingly creative interpretation of the brief .

Em Cooper's short film '30%' features in todays Guardian


Short film '30%' co directed by Film Club director Em Cooper about women in politics in Sierra Leone is featured in todays Guardian

Em's animation style is a powerful mix of oil paint and live action and works to communicate strong messages and view points through animation using imagery that cannot ordinarily be filmed. The film was commissioned by Screen South.



Silver Shark for Tempo "Bike"


Film Club's animated commercial, Tempo - Bike by Film Club won a Silver Shark in the Best Animated TV category at the Kinsale Shark Awards this Saturday.

Tempo - "Bike" also won Best 2D animated commercial at the British Animation Awards earlier this year.

UK premiere for BABELDOM at Encounters Festival

Babeldom, the latest feature film by Film Club director Paul Bush is set for its UK premiere in a special screening at Encounters Festival in the Arnolfini cinema at 6.00pm on Friday 21st september.


Also part of the Encounters Festival, Paul will be doing a retrospective programme of his work on thursday 20th September a 2:00pm and giving a masterclass the same day.

Paul is a member of the jury for the short animated film competition at the festival.

TRAM WINS MORE AWARDS

Since winning the Grand Prix, The Annecy Cristal/ Le Cristal d'Annecy and the FIPRESCI press awards at the Annecy International Animated Film Festival - Annecy, France, TRAM, a short animated film by Film Club director Michaela Pavlatova has been busy sweeping up awards on the animation festival scene 2012. It has also won;

Grand Prix - Festival du Film Court en Plein Air de Grenoble (France)

Mchaela Pavlatova wins top award at Annecy

Annecy International Animation Festival is the world's top reference for animated films, the Cannes of animation, it is the most highly regarded world animation festival. This year, the 50th anniversary of the festival.

One of 223 films screened between 4th to 9th June, Film Club director, Michaela Pavlatova won the Annecy Cristal prize for Best short film plus the press and critics prize 'FIPRESCI Award' for her new short animated film ' Tram'.





Little Clay Men



Film Club director Em Cooper worked with Ceramic artist,  Lawrence Epps, to leave 8,000 little clay men for Manchesters commuters on Wednesday 16th May.

The 8,000 men were placed all around Manchester during Tuesday evening to surprise the commuters on Wednesday morning.

The event was part of Future Everything festival running from 16 - 19th May in Manchester.

EMERGENCE at Turner contemporary, Margate

‘Emergence’, a new piece of work by Film Club director, Em Cooper, will be screening at the Turner Contemporary, Margate, on Friday evening this week, 20th April, as part of their 1st anniversary celebrations.

The piece is a collaboration with composer Jim Perkins, and combines Em's signature style, oil-painted animation with Jim Perkins’ score, which will be sung by soprano Red Gray, to the projection in the gallery.

It will be performed 3 times during the evening between 6 and 10pm. The piece is inspired by the philosophical concept of Emergence, and can be read as a meditation on the creative process...

You are very much invited, if you happen to feel like a spontaneous Friday-night trip to the seaside on the high speed train (only an hour from london!)...

Erica Akerlund, Film Club director, who joined us this year, has been working on a project for Le Theatre Idiotique.



Film Club director Paul Bush and Dance animation


Film Club director Paul Bush is giving a talk on Dance animation at the Jerwood Space on 16th Feb . Paul will be part of a panel discussion held to coincide with the presentation of Moving Pictures, the online exhibition of dance animation. Presented by Animate Projects and Portland Green Cultural Projects, the panel discussion will be held at the Jerwood Space on 16th February 2012 at 6.30 pm

Pas De Deux De Deux Directed by Paul Bush
The White swan pas de deux from the classical ballet Swan Lake has been restaged frame by frame with the two original dancers replaced by four new dancers. The movement remains continuous, but in each frame a different person occupies the dancers' body space. the White Swan pas de deux from Swan Lake as originally danced by Marina Semenova and Yuri Kondratov in 1946 is re-enacted by Yalckun Abdurehim, Matthew Hawkins, Camille Litalien and Franziska Rosenzweig.

'Pas De Deux De Deux' will be screened as part of the online exhibition of Dance animation, 'Moving Pictures', presented by Animate Projects, and goes live on 27th January 2012.

BABLEDOM to premiere at the Rotterdam International Film Festival



Paul Bush's new feature, made over five years and shot with a small digital camera capturing the extraordinary architecture of modern cities in Japan, China, Dubai, Germany, Uk, Austria and Spain will be shown at the Netherlands Architecture Institute as part of the official selection of 41st Rotterdam International Film Festival. It will be shown every day 26-29 january at the NAI auditorium.
Rotterdam is one of the biggest film festivals in europe and the most important for independanet and experimental films.
